Cardiff Card Con June 25 Pickups

It was like being in a volcano

On 21st June the Cardiff Card Con took place, on what was effectively the hottest day of the year. It was bloody hot it was.

In searching for a featured image for this post, I wanted something from perhaps the tv show to highlight how hot it was.

Probably not the best Google Search… the results were, interestingAlso searching for “Pokémon sweating” and “Pokémon beach” were not ideal either.

To reiterate what I said earlier, it was bloody hot! Anyway onto the purchases…

I have recently been appreciating some of the “older” maybe less appreciated, or underrated cards from the Platinum and EX Ruby & Sapphire eras. I think some of the artworks from that time were genuinely phenomenal.

Ralts 89/127 (Platinum, February 2009)
Kirlia 51/127 (Platinum, February 2009)
Lapras 79/127 (Platinum, February 2009)
Oddish 73/110 (EX Holon Phantoms, May 2006)
Clamperl 51/92 (EX Legend Maker, February 2006)
Roserade 12/111 (Platinum Rising Rivals, May 2009)

The Roserade caught my eye because of Gardenia being there as it’s owner and in the last 12 months I’ve liked the modern Gardenia cards from the Sword & Shield sets. I’m drawn to the grass type trainers (I say that it’s pretty much Erika and Gardenia that I’m drawn to, I’m not familiar with any others).

Also some WOTC era stuff, I have complete sets for Base Set, Jungle, Fossil and Team Rocket. I have a handful of Gym Challenge & Gym Heroes, so I do like picking up some stuff I don’t already have. Oddish being one of my fav Pokémon, I had to pick up the holo of Erika’s Vileplume. Pre-release Misty’s Golduck is cool, the artwork for Blaine’s Ponyta is just great.

The Gengar line are some of my favourite Pokemon too, so the Gastly was an easy pickup.

And then for a modern purchase, I couldn’t say no to this Articuno illustration from Journey Together.

Total cost for all of these was £72 which I’m happy with as when I’ve gone to these conventions in the past I usually spend £200+
